Trigeneration plant for pharmaceutical industry
Design and realisation of an integrated system for the combined production of electricity, heat and cold

Challenge
The main design challenge was the development of a plant capable of simultaneously and continuously covering the electrical, thermal and cooling energy needs of a pharmaceutical industrial context, characterised by high operational complexity and variable energy loads. It was necessary to synergistically integrate heterogeneous technologies within a modular and flexible system, capable of dynamically adapting to different operating conditions and at the same time guaranteeing maximum efficiency, reliability and continuity of the energy service.
Results/benefits achieved by the customer
- Optimised energy efficiency: The integrated system enables the combined generation of electrical, thermal and cooling energy, achieving an overall efficiency of 86 per cent. This high level of efficiency maximises the use of primary resources and reduces energy waste.
- Reduced operating costs: Thanks to the synergic configuration of subsystems and efficient control of energy flows, the plant has significantly reduced the overall costs of energy supply and management.
- Environmental sustainability: The reduction in consumption and CO₂ emissions makes the plant fully consistent with the objectives of energy transition and environmental sustainability, contributing to the improvement of the production site’s ecological footprint.
- Flexibility and continuity of operation: The modular architecture of the system ensures high management flexibility, allowing energy production to be adapted in real time to the variable needs of the industrial process, while guaranteeing reliability and continuity of operation.
